Solving failed MySQL5 automatic start in Mac OS X 10.6.6

posted in: Computers | 0

I had successfully installed MySQL5 in my Mac and I was able to logon to MySQL server using terminal using command: mysql -u root -p. However, It was found out that MySQL server would not started automatically every time the system was started up.

Something was not properly set, even during installation I have follow the instruction to install MySQLStartupItem.pkg which was to be used for the purpose of automatic start-up of MySQL. Then I made some check by following the ReadMe file of the MySQL5 installation package. I tried to run the command:

shell> sudo /Library/StartupItems/MySQLCOM/MySQLCOM start

But still, MySQL can not start automatically at system start up.

Then after reading several posts to the related problem using Google, then I found out that it was needed to do the following:

cd /usr/local/mysql/support-files
sudo nano mysql.server

Find the lines:

basedir=
datadir=

change them to:
basedir=/usr/local/mysql
datadir=/usr/local/mysql/data

By using the above steps, finally, MySQL5 server could start automatically when the system was started up.
